This three months of IHG Academy program brings an incredible experience in my professional life. I am glad to get an opportunity to work with all extremely knowledgeable leaders at IHG Corporate Office – Canada. Starting from collecting Celebrate Service Week 2017 stories by emailing and calling General Managers of all IHG properties in Canada built up confidence and strength up my communication skills. This experience helped me to achieve best results in my second bigger project ‘IHG Academy’. To collect IHG Academy candidate’s information from all IHG properties in Canada, I worked with all four Canada based Franchise Performance Support Managers, Regional HR Manager and all IHG properties; General Manager, Human Resource, Sales and Front Office team.

The best part of my IHG Academy work experience placement was working under this great leader (Gigi Martinez – Reg. HR Manager). She turned my placement’s learning to an asset; by believing on me, providing me the rights to take decisions during my projects, allowing me to be myself and guiding the right way to do things. ‘Be You’, this is what I enjoy the most. Another important part which I will never forget is, looking after my interest in IHG, I got an opportunity to learn, understand and experienced all areas and roles of corporate office that is S&M, Revenue, Operations, Brand Standards, Admin, Budget, HR and was fun visiting six properties with the Reg Director, HOST and F&B Support. Canada office often host meetings & with that I meet so many great personalities, got numerous knowledge and learnings from them. Because of all this positive and welcoming gesture from all individual’s, I always use to go at work with excitement and passion.

I am planning to work full time after my placement. In my interview for the placement I had mentioned that, I am looking forward to work for IHG in future. So, starting from first day of my internship my leader has planned the schedule for me to spend some time with leaders in different area so that I can built contacts and will also help me to understand the best department for me to work in future. During the last weeks of my internship, my leader recommends my name to all FPS and department’s manager, that I am at the end of my internship and looking for opportunities in our industry. Also, while working on IHG Academy project, I got to know that in overall Canada IHG properties most of the intern’s get hired by same property after/while completing their IHG Academy program, which is great! **Update: Several weeks after he wrote this and his internship ended, Arif was hired to join the team at an IHG hotel working in guest services as a Front Desk Agent. Congratulations, Arif!
